Towing heads - Pull heads for pulling PE pipes during under-drilling. No Dig

Pull heads for plastic pipes

Traction heads ensure a smooth and safe transfer of traction when PE pipes are pulled into place during underdrilling. Choose from reusable standard pull heads, seal pull heads with sheath against drilling mud or PE pull heads for welding in dimensions from Ø20 to 630+ mm.

Pulling Heads for PE Pipes in Trenchless Installation (No-Dig)

A pulling head provides the connection between the drilling equipment or winch and the PE pipe when the pipe needs to be pulled into position through a pre-drilled borehole. Mounted on the leading end of the pipe, the pulling head transfers the pulling force evenly and in a controlled manner, helping to prevent damage to the pipe wall during installation.

The result is safe and efficient trenchless pipe installation without excavation, leaving road surfaces, pavements, landscaping and other existing infrastructure undisturbed while reducing installation time and overall project costs.

When Do You Need a Pulling Head?

Pulling heads are used in trenchless pipe installation applications where the pipe is pulled into position rather than installed in an open trench:

  • Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD / No-Dig) beneath roads, driveways, car parks, railway crossings and built-up areas.
  • Water main and service pipe replacement, where a new PE pipe is pulled through the existing pipe route.
  • Installation of protective ducts and conduits for electrical cables, fibre optics, water and other utilities.
  • Pulling through open boreholes using bentonite or drilling fluid, where a sealed solution is required to prevent drilling mud and debris from entering the pipe.

Three Types to Suit Every Application

  • Standard Pulling Head – Installs without welding and securely clamps onto the pipe quickly and easily. Designed for repeated use across multiple projects. Available for pipe diameters from Ø20 to 355 mm, for SDR 11 and SDR 17, in both PE80 and PE100.
  • Pulling Head with Protective Casing – Features a closed steel casing that seals the pipe end, preventing drilling mud and debris from entering the pipe during installation. Available for diameters from Ø32 to 355 mm and larger, depending on the model.
  • Weld-On PE Pulling Head – Welded directly onto the pipe end using a standard pipe welding machine, providing a strong, fully load-bearing connection. Ideal for long pulls and large-diameter pipes. Available for diameters from Ø32 to 560 mm, for SDR 7.4, SDR 11 and SDR 17, with a standard C15E steel pulling eye.

Advantages of Our Pulling Heads

  • Reliable force transmission – Helps prevent pipe damage, even under high pulling loads.
  • Quick installation – Either clamps onto the pipe without welding or is welded on using standard equipment, depending on the model.
  • Cost-effective – Standard pulling heads can be reused many times.
  • Wide product range – Available from Ø20 mm up to Ø630 mm and larger, depending on the type.
  • Compatible with your pipe material – Suitable for PE80 and PE100 pipes in SDR 7.4, SDR 11 and SDR 17, with SDR 21 and SDR 26 available for certain pulling heads with protective casing.
  • Reduced risk of downtime – Selecting the correct pulling head reduces the risk of slippage or pipe damage during installation.
